Following the unique Indy 500 qualifying as close as we can, we will set the grid based on fastest four-lap average speed.
There are two lanes on pit road at Indianapolis. The left lane (lane 1) will be for drivers who have not made a qualifying attempt. The right lane (lane 2) is for drivers making another attempt. The left lane will ALWAYS take priority for a run.
Drivers are permitted to make as many qualifying attempts as they like, time permitting. Drivers in the left lane will always have priority, as mentioned above, the lane is reserved for first qualifying attempts only. Drivers are not required to remain in the qualifying session following the completion of a run. They may leave after their run if they'd like, or stay for another. They may also re-join later if they want to make another attempt.
NOTE: Beginning a new qualifying attempt will wipe your previous attempt from the record. Only your most recent attempt will be considered in the final results.
The race event will be 202 laps. Lap 1 will be to set the grid per the qualifying event, and lap 2 will be the formation lap. Lap 3 will be the beginning of the race. The race will run a distance of 500 miles, which is equivalent to 200 laps.
Drivers are asked to be in a 3x3 grid by the entry to turn 3 on the formation lap. Pole position (P1) will be inside row one, second place (P2) will be middle row one, and (P3) will be outside row one. This pattern will continue all the way through the field, to form 10 rows at three wide, and one row at two wide (AMS2 has a 32 driver maximum).
At the exit of turn 4 drivers should already be tightly gridded in a 3x3 pack. When the pole-sitter approaches the light to pit lane, they are free to go racing between there and the start/finish line. Once the leader begins, drivers may begin racing. The area between the pit entry light, and the start/finish line will be our restart zone, and will be important in the restarts section of the rules.
If the yellow is thrown, we will abide by AMS2 safety car procedure. Pits will open and close per AMS2 instruction. Drivers are asked to follow these rules to avoid potential in-game penalties. When the safety car returns to pit lane, WE WILL HAVE ONE MORE MANUAL SAFTEY LAP. This lap is for any cars a lap or more down from the race leader to get waved around to the back of the field. You may only recover ONE lap during the wave around. This will allow the leaders to bring the field to green without potential interference from cars not racing them for position.
By turn 3 of the manual safety lap detailed above, the field must be gridded back in a single file formation. Once the race leader reaches the restart zone, they will race the field back to green. Sandbagging through the corners, and speeding back up to the field to gain momentum on the restart, could result in a post race penalty, or disqualification.
